While in medical school Dr. Calkins joined the Navy and served in the Navy until 2002, as a Family Practitioner, Flight Surgeon, Anesthesiologist and Pain Management Physician. He has served in the United States, many foreign countries, multiple aircraft carriers and also with the Fleet Hospital Five, which has been deployed to everywhere from Haiti to Bosnia and even to the First Gulf War. Dr. Calkins left the Navy specifically to study Interventional Pain Management under one of the finest in the field. He is very excited to be able to share this knowledge to assist his patients. Dr. Calkins is fortunate to have a wonderful family in the central Rio Grande Valley. Dr. David Calkins is trained and skilled in the latest techniques of assisting his patients in relieving severe, chronic and disabling pain. He has been selected to train physicians in many of the latest techniques at symposiums around the U.S. He and his family are very excited about returning home to New Mexico to help relieve others of their pain and get back to as much of their lives as possible. He believes that life is too short to live in pain and he stands ready to help.

Dr. David Calkins was born in Belen, New Mexico and lived there until attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. After graduation, Dr. Calkins served in the Army for another 8 years when he returned to New Mexico to attend the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine. He finished his premed requirements and worked as an Electrical engineer for Sperry Corporation, while serving as a pilot for the New Mexico National Guard Air Ambulance Company in Santa Fe.
