Excellent amenities and care help ease patient concern during skin cancer removal

Jean began noticing some small round areas of skinjean success story thickening on her face. At first there was no pain, change of skin color or itching. However, as time went by the area grew in circumference and the edge of the skin growth began to raise. Jean also noticed that the growth was changing color. She went to her physician for a check up, and he referred her to Dr. Timothy Frost who is fellowship-trained in Facial Plastic Surgery. Dr. Frost performed a biopsy of the lesions and determined that the three spaces were basal cell carcinoma and would need to be removed. The procedure would take place at Southern New Mexico Surgery Center in Alamogorda.

Sixty percent of skin cancers are classified as basal cell carcinoma and are slow-growing lesions that invade tissue but rarely metastasize. This type of carcinoma is usually noticed on the face and on other exposed skin areas but may occur anywhere. The common form first appears as a small round or oval area of skin thickening and may slowly grow in circumference creating a slightly raised edge, and may appear shiny or translucent.

Jean went to the Southern New Mexico Surgery Center on the morning of February 17, 2010 for her procedure and was impressed with the comfortable amenities and welcoming staff and nurses. She is allergic to several medications. Dr. Frost and the Southern New Mexico Surgery Center staff took extra precautions to ensure an allergic reaction did not occur. The three lesions were successfully removed and Jean was able to return home the same day to recover.

“The nurses and staff were excellent, the billing process was efficient. Having a skin cancer is frightening, but the staff at Southern New Mexico Surgery Center put me at ease and made me feel at home during my procedure,” Jean reflects. She is back to her normal activities around the house, including walking for enjoyment. Jean is thankful to have the procedure behind her and very glad that the carcinoma removal was successful.
